FILLED WITH TYPOS WARNING: DO NOT BUY THE KINDLE VERSION!I made the mistake of buying the kindle version. I've only gone through the math section, but it is CHOCK FULL of typos. The way the book is formatted, they first present you with problems, and then afterwards is an answer section with explanations. It's clear as day that the explanations and the questions do NOT match, as they are filled with typos! For example, the question may have used a greater-than, whereas the answer section shows the same problem with a greater-or-equal-than sign. Or a question could have had a multiple choice value of 4, but the answer section shows the same problem with the same multiple choice value of 2!I cannot believe ETS would sanction such a book filled with so many errors.The official gre guide is very helpful but it doesn't ... The explanations are very helpful.Worth the purchase Purchase this for preparation for the GRE. You can get most of the material online at the ets website, but I wanted to have the material to review. The material was very similar to the actual GRE and I believe it was very useful.

Every home should have this! This was one of my favorite books growing up. I was shocked when I learned that my best friend had never read it and therefore her son knew nothing of it either. I clearly had to put a stop to this madness and buy it for them. The artwork is just as stunning as I remember and the story is just as magical. I honestly didn't even realize that it came with an ornament which is an absolutely beautiful bonus. I loved it so much that I bought one for my boyfriend as well. They did a really wonderful job with this anniversary addition. Needless to say, everyone is in love with the book. I mean, how could they not be? It's a must have!Defective. Missing words. Pictures cut off. This is a wonderful book, but the Kindle edition is a disaster. Missing words, pictures cut off. When I tried to return an hour after purchasing I was told I could not get a refund. I will be calling Amazon.LOVE! We purchased this book to add to our Christmas collection! We wrap each book and read one a night during the month of December! A great Family Tradition and would not be complete without this classic story! Love that we can read this story in addition to watching the TV showing! A great addition was not only was this a signed copy, but had an ornament in back of book! Purchased one for each of my daughters to start their own family tradition since this story is their FAV!

Nice pictures and convenient size. We were nicely surprised to see all the information provided in this book. So even if you are not a "bird watcher", you will be after purchasing this book!

The story is particularly gripping as Mr. Greenberg shares the stories of people affected by the events and what they experienced. Non technical and fascinating read for everyone. Well done !

Four Stars Good map, a little bit difficult to read.A stellar guide for anyone interested in travel to the Southern Cone! This is_the_guide for anyone interested in travel to the Southern Cone of South America, particularly Patagonia and the Falkland Islands (Malvinas in Spanish). As a fellow scholar of the region, I had already read all 800+ pages of Bernhardson's exhaustive PhD dissertation on the history, ecology and geography of the Falklands. Here, with the latest edition of the Moon Patagonia book, Bernhardson has applied a similarly rigorous approach to provide a far more accessible and practical overview of key sites of interest in both the Argentine and Chilean sides of Patagonia, as well as the Falklands. This book is a true gem. Highly recommended!Enticing and Practical Guide First became aware of the Patagonia from Bruce Chatwin’s book in the late 1970s. My own experiences with the area dates back over 30 years ago, when I started to travel regularly to the Southern Cone, including a stint of four years living in Buenos Aires. Most of my exploring was limited to the northern Patagonia of Argentina and Chile. I wish that I had had this guide to facilitate a broader firsthand appreciation of the region.The guide has compelling photos and text to lure you combined with the practical details required to have successful explorations. A good number of options are provided, many of a rigorous sort involving hiking, but very relevant for the adventurous types likely to be drawn to the region to begin with. Appreciate the extensive gateway chapters, which alone would warrant an extended stay in Buenos Aires and Santiago. As well, that of the Falklands/Malvinas for the truly adventurous types!

In April 1992 a young man from a well-to-do family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. His name was Christopher Johnson McCandless. He had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself. Four months later, his decomposed body was found by a moose hunter.  How McCandless came to die is the unforgettable story of Into the Wild.

Immediately after graduating from college in 1991, McCandless had roamed through the West and Southwest on a vision quest like those made by his heroes Jack London and John Muir.  In the Mojave Desert he abandoned his car, stripped it of its license plates, and burned all of his  cash.  He would give himself a new name, Alexander Supertramp, and , unencumbered by money and belongings, he would be free to wallow in the raw, unfiltered experiences that nature presented.  Craving a blank spot on the map, McCandless simply threw the maps away.  Leaving behind his desperate parents and sister, he vanished into the wild.

Jon Krakauer constructs a clarifying prism through which he reassembles the disquieting facts of McCandless's short life.  Admitting an interst that borders on obsession, he searches for the clues to the dries and desires that propelled McCandless.  Digging deeply, he takes an inherently compelling mystery and unravels the larger riddles it holds: the profound pull of the American wilderness on our imagination; the allure of high-risk activities to young men of a certain cast of mind; the complex, charged bond between fathers and sons.

When McCandless's innocent mistakes turn out to be irreversible and fatal, he becomes the stuff of tabloid headlines and is dismissed for his naiveté, pretensions, and hubris.  He is said  to have had a death wish but wanting to die is a very different thing from being compelled to look over the edge. Krakauer brings McCandless's uncompromising pilgrimage out of the shadows, and the peril, adversity , and renunciation sought by this enigmatic young man are illuminated with a rare understanding--and not an ounce of sentimentality. Bizarre Unsettling story of a brilliant but eccentric young man, who, after graduating summa cum laude from Emory University, burned all his money, abandoned his family, hit the road as a wanderer (“Alexander Supertramp”) and ended up dead of starvation in an abandoned bus deep in Alaska. Opinions differ as to his lack of preparedness, his impulsiveness, his sanity. Most Alaskans dismiss him as a greenhorn who got what he deserved. Some allow that he showed considerable courage. Krakauer identifies with him and even goes so far as to bore us with his own early adventures, which is uncalled for. In the end we really don’t understand how a rational person, however young, could behave in this way. His actions are not those of a normal person, but rather a person with a character disorder. And there are grounds for this. His discovery that his father had two families and had lied to him all his life was what set him off. It could be argued that the unconscious motive behind his crazy peregrinations was revenge. Freud tells us that the ego could ever muster enough hate for itself to commit suicide, but the hate has to be directed outside at someone else and then turned against the self. In this case his father and the family he abandoned contemptuously. “They’re a bunch of idiots.” This is one explanation, not the only explanation. McCandless was a complex character, full of contradictions that ultimately cost him his life.Enjoyable and Poignant Book I watched the movie, "Into The Wild" and it really moved me and made me want to buy the book. It is very readable and non judgmental. The book really captures the essence of Chris McCandless and his need to live a very unconventional lifestyle. Mr. Krakauer did an amazing amount of research for this book. I enjoyed Chapter 14 of this book in which Jon Krakauer describes his climb of the Devil's Thumb when he was 23 years old and how it nearly ended in disaster. Mr. Krakauer was able to feel empathy for Chris McCandless because of his own adventurous youth. Chapters 8 and 9 tell of Gene Rosellini, John Waterman, Carl McCunn, and Everett Ruess, other unconventional people who also perished in the wilderness in a quest for adventure. The essence of the book is that most of us do dumb or dangerous things in our youth, but we survive and grow older. Chris McCandless, Everett Ruess and the others never got that second chance. I saw a short video on youtube in which a man obtained the jacket that Chris McCandless had when he died and this man found Chris's drivers license, social security card, and about $300 in cash in a secret compartment of the garment. Proof that Chris had no thought of suicide when he embarked on his Alaskan adventure. He fully intended to come back from the wilderness. "Into the Wild" is a a short but very poignant book.Better than the film Much better than the film of the same title.Whether you think the subject of this novel died due to his own stupidity and hubris or of a simple mistake while he was making a noble, philosophical pilgrimage, this book is gripping and fascinating.
